Revolutionary Scanning and Binding Process

At ICB we do things a little differently around here and no process is too long or difficult for us to achieve. Our goal is to provide you, our valued customer, with a superb quality book you will be proud to own and display for years to come.

Before your book can be free-shipped to you we subject the original copy to a thorough and exacting restoration process before we are satisfied it is ready to be sent to our printers and binders.

This involves a painstaking and thorough process – a process which cannot be rushed -  and is very labour and time-intensive; removing spores, dirt marks, water stains, foxing and crayon marks.

Once these have all been removed we digitally enhance the colours and sharpen the text to improve the original. These are done at http://www.bookscanbureau.co.uk/  utilizing the finest state-of-the-art technology available making your book now as fresh and vital as the day it was published a hundred years ago.

All ICB books are printed on chemically protected acid-free paper from sustainable sources which means you can pass down through your family to your children and grand children your treasured book.

Once the scanning and digitization process is completed your book is ready to be off-set litho printed on the finest quality German Heidelberg and Japanese Komori printers.

After the text block has been off-set litho printed and top, tail and fore edge trimmed, your book is then ready to be sent to the bindery to be saddle-stitched for extra strength and durability, and the case-backs constructed ready to be quarter-bound in cloth and pictorial covers laminated.

The case-back covers are then sent to have their spines stamped in 22K gold foil leaf utilizing a zinco block stamping machine. The text block is then ready to be attached to the case-back boards using front and back end papers and the case-back boards are then round and backed to give the book shape and also aids the flexibility when opened.

Your book is then finally ready to be inspected by quality control before being permitted to leave the bindery ready to be shipped to our warehouse.
